Coaches Corners

Nov. 18, 2008

It was a nice summer and a good start to the new season. I would like to welcome our new Board members, swimmers, parents and of course all of our returning swimmers. We have added several new coaches and I am sure you have seen them on deck. Coach Jackie will be involved with the Jrs. and Developmental teams. Coach Dina will be involved with the Pre and Developmental teams, and Coach Matt and Kim will be instructing the Pre-team.

Our home fall meet was a success and our swimmers did well. Thanks to all the parents that put in time and effort to make it successful. Remember we have another one in January.

A REMINDER TO ALL PARENTS AND SWIMMERS OUR COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP MEET IS APRIL 25TH AND 26TH 2009. THIS IS A MANDATORY MEET IF YOU MAKE THE TIME OR ARE CHOSEN. THESE DATES SHOULD BE KEPT OPEN.

I was asked the other day by a Senior swimmer, “How can I get motivated?” Excellent question - hard to answer. Motivation can not be injected or taken with water. You have to want something and be willing to set goals to get it. Set a goal that you and your coach believe is realistically achievable. Whether it’s a desire to go to States, Zones, JO’s, Counties, Silvers, etc. or to improve your weakest stroke, make sure the goal is something you feel you can honestly achieve with hard work.

Make your commitment and stick to it, learn from others who achieved what you want to. In swimming you have to want to be a swimmer, to be the best you can be. If you do not want to swim you cannot be motivated. No outside motivation will help; it will bounce off of you instead of sinking in. There is no quick fix or famous saying that will get you motivated, you must want it, and then the outside motivation and support will help you achieve your goals. Your commitment, focus, and drive are derived from the internal motivation you have, the intensity of your motivation will match your end result.

SO ARE YOU MOTIVATED??????????????

I am eager to run clinics again with focus on starts, turns, and stroke technique. This will be for all groups. The Developmental teams will be coming in on Saturdays and they will be covered and taped then.

If you have a problem or a question about practice or anything that happens on deck, please discuss it with your group coach and if not satisfied then me.

We have two outside meets coming up this month remember when attending meets arrive 15 min. before warm ups and wear SACHEM cap, suit, shirt, etc.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Mr. Scott
